چکیده
(1) The intensity of cosmic rays is practically independent of time. This fact indicates that the origin of these rays can be sought neither in the sun nor in any of the objects of our own Milky Way. (2) The decrease in intensity of cosmic rays in equatorial regions has successfully been explained by assuming that at least a part of the rays consists of very energetic, positively or negatively charged particles. These particles must be of extra-terrestrial origin, as otherwise the distance traversed by them would not be long enough for the earth's magnetic field to produce the observed dip in intensity at the equator.

متن کاملNearby Spiral Galaxy Globular Cluster Systems II : Globular Cluster
We present new metallicity estimates for globular cluster candidates in the Sd spiral NGC 300, one of the nearest spiral galaxies outside the Local Group. We have obtained optical spectroscopy for 44 Sculptor Group globular cluster candidates with the Boller and Chivens (B&C) spectrograph on the Baade Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory. There are 2 globular clusters in NGC 253 and 14 objects...

We have obtained optical spectroscopy for 44 Sculptor Group globular cluster candidates with the Boller and Chivens (B&C) spectrograph on the Baade Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory. Nine of these objects appear to be genuine old globular...

متن کاملThe angular diameter and distance of the Cepheid ζ Gem
Cepheids are the primary distance indicators for extragalactic astronomy and therefore are of very high astrophysical interest. Unfortunately, they are rare stars, situated very far from Earth. Though they are supergiants, their typical angular diameter is only a few milliarcseconds, making them very challenging targets even for long-baseline interferometers. We report observations that were ob...
